London is an amazing city, but exploring it can be pretty pricey. Luckily, there are tons of free things to do and inexpensive places you can enjoy in England’s capital city. Below are five tips on how you can enjoy days out in London while on a budget.

  1. Check out the Museums

London has a multitude of museums, and most of them have free admission, as they are government-funded. You can spend your day in the National History Museum and see impressive artefacts and fossil collections.

Another museum that you can visit for free is the National Gallery. This museum houses the world-famous masterpieces of Leonardo Da Vinci, Rembrandt, Van Gogh, and other artists that help shape European art and history. But if you are looking for something interactive, then check out the Science Museum. The London Transport Museum is also a great place to visit if you love trains and automobiles.

2. Walk the Historic Landmarks

Another way to enjoy London on a day out is to explore its historical landmarks. If you love walking, then put on your comfiest shoes and grab a map! Start your day at Buckingham Palace, where you can spend an hour or two. Witness the Changing of the Guards and visit the Royal Mews.

Westminster Abbey is also worth checking out, and so as the Tower of London. Inside the tower, you will find the Crown Jewels, a symbol of England’s royal sovereignty. The London Eye is not to be missed. This observation wheel stands tall in the River Thames, and a ride in one of the capsules offers a spectacular landscape view of the city.

3. Explore the Parks

Exploring the amazing Royal Parks of London is perfect for a quick escape from the bustling city. No need to worry about expensive admission fees, since these parks are free to the public. Greenwich Park is highly recommended, and so as the Hyde Park, which is located at the heart of Central London. These parks offer plenty of activities for everyone to enjoy.

The Kensington Gardens, which is just adjacent to Hyde Park, offers a lot of green spaces and splendid landscapes. You can also take a detour to Green Park while you are in the Buckingham Palace. Although it is the smallest of all the Royal Parks, it has a unique character that makes it different from the rest. With its hundreds of trees and grasslands, this park gives off a relaxing ambience.

4. Get out of the City Centre

While Central London is gorgeous, there are also places in greater London that are as equally quirky. Pay a visit to The Royal Observatory, the home of the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), and take a selfie in the Prime Meridian of the World. And while you’re at it, experience the London Planetarium and marvel at the wonders of the night sky.

You can also visit one of London’s iconic outdoor stages, the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre. It is a beautiful uncovered theatre situated in Regent’s Park. Watch the incredible theatrical performances while you enjoy the lovely open air.

5. Save on travel

The London Pass is a great deal. This sightseeing package lets you visit more than 80 attractions while saving both time and money. The cost of the pass is a bargain without a doubt. It’s cheaper than having to pay for the entrance fees separately. Favourite attractions include St. Paul’s Cathedral, Windsor Castle, and London Zoo.

Another perk you can enjoy with your pass is that you get to skip the lines! Pass holders are given a special fast track entry in some of the famous sights and attractions that are usually crowded with tourists. In addition, the London Pass offers a hop-on hop-off bus tour that covers more than a hundred stops and several routes around London.
