It’s that time of year again! The darker nights are upon us, but so too are the amazing Christmas markets. Whether it’s a trip to see Santa, a venture to the mulled wine stand, or a decision on which exotic delicacy we are going to try next, the Christmas market has become extremely popular in the UK.
Here, with gas bottle suppliers, Flogas, we look at the best spots to head to this winter for your Christmas market fix:
Bath Christmas Market
This venue was voted the UK’s best Christmas market in 2017 and will be hoping to have the same public reaction this time out. Open from 22nd November until 9th December, the stores are set against the backdrop of the stunning Georgian architecture of the picturesque city. You’ll be likely to find a range of festive stalls that are selling food, drink, jewellery and quirky handmade gifts.
Chriskindelmarkt, Leeds
Leeds’s annual Christmas market is hosted at The Millennium Square and features traditional German traders. It provides the feel-good factor for the festive period from 9th November through to 22nd December and showcases an array of traditional wooden stalls which are awash with German goods. If it’s Bratwurst you want, head here! This year also sees the return of Santa’s Breakfast experience at the Alp Chalet restaurant.
Frosted Fairground, Dreamland, Margate, Kent
Head to this popular amusement park this Christmas and you’ll notice it’s been transformed into a winter wonderland. Open between 2nd December and 3rd January, entrance to the site is free, although rides will cost. Once inside, you’ll be taken aback by the traditional carol singing and wide variety of festive stalls, while an hour on the ice rink will have your festive juices flowing. Once again, treat the little ones to a visit to the big guy in red in Santa’s Grotto before you leave!
Waddesdon, Buckinghamshire
Open from 10th November until 16th December, there will be over 80 exhibitors in traditional woodland chalets at this beautiful National Trust location. There’ll be a wide range of high-quality gifts available throughout too, so why not head down with your loved ones and soak up the sights – including a 20ft Christmas tree – and sounds set against the North Front of the Manor?
Winchester Cathedral Christmas Market
If the usual abundance of delightful stalls simply isn’t enough, this market with a German theme that’s set up outside the historical buildings and attracts over 350,000 visitors each year, offers that little extra. Surrounded by an open-air ice rink, the market also holds a parade of hand-crafted lanterns if you attend on 29th November. The parade will end with a fireworks display to give your day out that little extra sparkle. The market is open from 17th November through until 20th December.
Manchester Market
While you might want to avoid the busiest times, if you hit it at the right time Manchester’s market can be a magical location. Open from 9th November until 22nd December, this year sees a new ice village added across the nine locations — all within walking distance of each other. Make your way through the exhibitions and stalls and buy those quirky stocking fillers for your loved ones before finding out from Santa if you’ve been naughty or nice.
While there are Christmas markets galore across the UK, and indeed the world, it’s worth branching out and trying something new. Why not set up a bucket list of locations and tick them off as you and your loved ones attend them?
